Operational Manual
Drive Mechanism
The platen is driven from a ball bearing mounted shaft through high-speed double helical gears running in an oil bath and protected by a guard. The main gear shaft and connecting arm are mounted on bronze bushes. The reduction gear shaft is made of hardened high-quality steel. Lubricated counter-pressure elements prevent the gears from deviating under the work pressure.
Impression Adjustment
Quick and simple adjustment of impression is made through two eccentric bushes, and the amount of impression can be easily read off on a graduated scale. A key for impression adjustment is also provided as a tool. A new worm gear system for impression adjustment is available in all export model machines. This system is easy and much more user-friendly for quick impression adjustment with a key provided with the machine as a service tool. Please ensure to loose the lock before moving the eccentric for impression adjustment.
Single/Dwell Timing Device
This timing device can be set to give a variable period from 0 to 30 seconds. During this time, the moving block, i.e., platen, remains stationary in the open position before automatically resuming motion at the end of the set dwell period.
Mode of Movement of Platen
The mode of movement of the platen can be set in three positions through a rotary switch provided on the operation panel:
a) Single impression: In this mode, the platen will stop after every impression and will not start again until the operator pushes the clutch on.
b) Dwell timing device: As stated above.
Continued Operation
Platen will move continuously on this mode and stop only when the brake is applied.
A LIMIT SWITCH IS FITTED AT BOTTOM SIDE THE LEVER MUST TOUCH THE LIMIT SWITCH TO ENSURE WORKING OF TIMER
Automatic impression counter:
The impression counter allows an accurate check to be kept on the number of impressions made by the machine.
A LIMIT SWITCH IS FITTED AT BOTTOM SIDE THE LEVER MUST TOUCH THE LIMIT SWITCH TO ENSURE WORKING OF COUNTER.
Electro-Magnetic Clutch and brake
Electro-magnetic clutch & brake enable push-button control of the machine for easy and efficient operation. Complete safety is ensured by full electrical interlocking. Electrical synchronization of both the clutch & the brake eliminates the possibility of time lag or over-lag between driving and braking.
ADJUSTMENT OF AIR GAP BETWEEN CLUTCH/BRAKE COIL & CENTRE PLATE
DURING RUN OF MACHINE USER CAN FACE PROBLEM OF INCREASE/DECREASE GAP BETWEEN CLUTCH/ BRAKE COIL AND CENTRE PLATE. THIS GAP SHOULD BE 0.10 MM.THIS GAP CAN BE INCREASED /DECREASEDBY ADJUSTING SCREWS IT IS ADVISABLE TO USE GAUGE TO MEASURE THE GAP REQUIRED. WHEN THE SOUND IS INCREASED WHILE BRAKINGGAP SHOULD BE CHECKED AND ADJUSTED.
Safety
All moving parts are protected by safety guards. A special feature is the patented guards which protect the operator from the moving block (platen). If any object comes between the moving block (platen) and this guard, a slight backward movement of the guard will occur, stopping the moving block (platen) immediately and isolating the starting mechanism. Until the guard is moved forward by hand, the machine remains dead and isolated from any attempt to actuate it through the starting mechanism.
LIMIT SWITCH IS FITTED AT THE BOTTOM OF GUARD AND THIS LIMIT SWITCH MUST TOUCH THE GUARD.
Nowadays, the Hand Brake is replaced by the sensors fitted on the platen; these sensors stop the platen if any object comes in between the receiver and the transmitter.
THIS IS AN OPTIONAL ATTACHMENT AND AVAILABLE ONLY ON REQUEST AT ADDITIONAL COST.
Installation
Sujata die cutting, creasing, and embossing press leaves the factory duly packed in one wooden case. Unload the machine by crane only; therefore, a hook is provided at the top of the machine. Pallet crane can also be used for unloading. The machine must be installed on a level floor, and the level must be checked with a level-checking instrument. Before giving current to the main, rotate the main shaft with the help of the handle provided with the machine as a tool. The power/voltage and cycles must be checked before connecting the machine to the main. Before giving impression, be sure that the gear key and other parts, bolts are properly tightened. Don’t increase the impression more than one step at a time.
Operation of machine by power:
Before giving the main connection to the machine, make sure that all connections are properly connected and the voltage is not less than 380V AC, 3-phase. After connection, check the three indicator lamps on the control panel for the 3-phase line, then check if the main pulley is free. If so, start the motor and wait for a few seconds to let the motor move at regular speed. Then, keep the rotary switch in the impression mode, and after that, if the impression is all right, the machine can be run in any desired mode as per the job requirements.
Note: We offer all our export model machines to be wired for 220V, 3-phase for certain countries if the buyer specifies the requirement at the time of order. Otherwise, the standard wiring of 440V, 3-phase will be done.
Don’t start the clutch button before starting the machine. Always first start the main motor and then engage the clutch to move the platen. The brake will be applied when the clutch off push button is pressed, or the patent guard/front guard and trip bar are pressed.
DURING THE RUNNING OF THE MACHINE, THE OWNER MAY FACE SMALL PROBLEMS WHICH CAN BE SOLVED EVEN BY THE OPERATOR.
Lubrication
A lubrication pump is provided for the centralization of lubrication to all vital parts. Fill the tank with sufficient oil in the tank of the S cam situated in front of the machine. This place is just below the moving block, and the S cam must be dipped in oil.
Lubrication pump (S Cam, Oil Tank below this cam) must be full of oil while the press is running.
An oil bath is also provided for the double helical gears, and these gears must always be kept dipped in oil.
Speed
Impression per hour can be increased or decreased by changing the motor pulley, but it is advisable to run the machine at no more than 1000 to 1500 impressions per hour for small sizes and 600 to 1000 IPH for large sizes in continuous mode for easy handling of jobs and safety.
Sujata Platen die cutting machines are offered in various models and facilities to use for multiple jobs. We categorize the machines as follows:
SDC-CUTTING AND CREASING PRESSES: Used for cutting, creasing, half cutting, and embossing work by using dies, embossing blocks, etc.
SDC JUMBO-SERIES: Represents big-size models of die cutting for the corrugating industry, display industry, form cutting, and other large-format jobs.
SHF: The SHF series represents all die cutting functions as well as an additional hot foiling press for printing by using blocks and printing foils to meet the demand for foil printing on paper, board, and various materials similar to paper.
SHF PLUS: The top model press can be used for normal die cutting, foiling, as well as heated die jobs.
HEATED PLATEN MACHINE: This refers to a platen where a heater is permanently fitted. In normal foiling press and die cutting processes, the heater is a chase and alternately removable while changing jobs to die cutting. However, in the heated platen, this issue is solved, and the same platen heating and cold process can continue without interruption.
While manufacturing the heated platen, it is important to cover the distance the platen moves with a normal rule die and less-height heated dies and blocks. To accommodate this, the machine’s eccentric is widely opened and moves plus to minus frequently by the operator to adjust the gap between rule dies and blocks. It accommodates both 23.799 mm rules as well as 4 mm heated dies. This feature makes this machine a user-friendly product. These machines are also supplied with open and close dwell functions.
